Bernie Sanders has gone full weed. The Presidential candidate who has been busy vocalizing his support on Jimmy Kimmel Live and to students nationwide has taken his stance on weed a step further by introducing a bill that would effectively end marijuana prohibition.
The caveat? The bill, which would essentially decriminalize weed in America and let states do their thing, has little to no chance of passing.
But it’s the Bern’s newest pro-pot move and won that should win the hearts of young, 420-friendly voters even more:
Presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders (I-VT) introduced a Senate bill today that would legalize recreational marijuana use on a federal level, The Hill reports. This is the first Senate bill ever to propose completely legalizing recreational marijuana.
The Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act would remove marijuana from the Drug Enforcement Administration’s list of “most dangerous drugs” and from the Controlled Substances Act, which regulates the manufacture, possession and use of certain drugs, according to The Huffington Post. [The Verge]
While the bill won’t advance and come to fruition, such a bill would likely become a stark reality if Bernie Sanders wins the 2016 “weed election.” And if Hillary Clinton’s campaign is paying attention to what Bernie is doing thanks to weed, she should get behind the bill and gain some 420 votes herself.
