Touring with the Grateful Dead seems to have paid off for John Mayer. Mayer plays the role of Jerry Garcia for the band on stage, but he’s also playing a part of the role while off the stage (minus the acid and dope).
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Mayer explains how he’s dropped alcohol from his life and replaced the Bud Lights with dank buds:
I put it where drinking used to go, and the quality of life has gone up considerably. Drinking is a fucking con. How much is enough? Every time I drank, I was looking for some sort of regulated amount. It always feels wrong for me. I always feel like I went overboard. “I said two, now it’s three, now we’re at four?” I never had a serious issue with it, but I remember looking around going, “This feels rigged. I’m taking a break. There’s never an amount that felt like I was succeeding at life. It always felt wrong. [Rolling Stone]
Mayer is clearly no longer waiting on the world to change–he’s helping change it. This is real talk in a major publication from a rock star that doesn’t scream “weed icon.”
Dropping booze for weed is basically the most righteous, sensible decision anyone can make. I drank heavily for the first time in months last week and I’m still hung over.
Liquor is poison. Weed is potion.
