Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Melissa Etheridge revealed this week that she smokes marijuana with her adult children for bonding and for its medicinal benefits.
Etheridge first began using marijuana for its medicinal purposes during a battle with breast cancer in 2004, during which time she underwent a lumpectomy as well as multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. On the advice of friend and fellow musician David Crosby (perhaps best known for his work with Crosby, Stills and Nash), Etheridge began smoking marijuana. According to AOL Entertainment News, Etheridge’s children now refer to it as medicine.
Speaking to AOL Entertainment News, Etheridge confirmed that “I have smoked with my older two. … It was funny at first and then they realized it’s a very natural end-of-the-day and it brings you closer, so I’d much rather have a smoke with my grown kids than a drink.”
