Aaron Hernandez may or may not be be the Latin Patrick Bateman. He’s also living proof that despite marijuana’s inherent pacifying effect, the plant can’t isn’t always the cure.
And smoking weed was certainly a heavy part of the former NFL star’s diet. During Hernandez’s murder trial, one of his former pals told a courtroom that Hernandez was a pot “chain-smoker” who often blazed “as much as an ounce in a day.”
That ex-friend and Hernandez’s weed dealer, Alexander Bradley, also testified that Hernandez typically bought between an ounce and four ounces of bud a week–an amount of smoking that rivals Snoop Dogg’s 81-blunt-a-day habit.
But the saddest turn in Hernandez’s regards his alleged victim and apparently former blunt roller, Odin Lloyd. According to Hernandez’s lawyers, marijuana is part of his defense because Llloyd was the “bluntmaster” and best friend in Hernandez’s crew as the two were close and future brother-in-laws.
While killing one’s smoke buddy and also the crew’s blunt roller would seem like a bizarre and foolish move for someone with that kind of habit, Hernandez also smoked PCP and was twisted all the time. That still doesn’t make it alright to (allegedly) kill your homie and the your squad’s bluntmaster.
Bluntmasters deserve to live. The case heard its final arguments today and awaits a decision from a jury.
